Are You Too Focused?

Are you too focused when it comes to marketing your product? Is the Internet the only place you think of advertising when it comes to the things that you want to sell?

Recently, to the surprise of many, Google actually advertised one of their products on some billboards spread around the United States. I'm not sure why people were surprised to see Google advertising on a billboard but they were and even some industry pundits wondered if Google was only trying to fill up some surplus inventory.

But why should we think like that? Why should we restrict our advertising to the Net simply because that's where our product can be found? Why can't we be out there advertising in other forms of media and even on the sides of buses and in trains for that matter?

Yeah I know ... I can hear you laughing and thinking that I'm crazy because we're in adult and no one is ever going to allow us to advertise our products in public places like that. Really? Are you sure that we can't take advantage of other forms of advertising just because we're in adult?

Man if that's what you think then you may as well pack your bags and get out of the industry right now because there's really no place for you here at all. So get out now before you waste anymore time and anymore money!

This is an industry where you need to be innovative and even a little visionary if you want to make money. This is an industry that is all about marketing ... selling stuff to people who really don't need it ... convincing people that your product will make their lives so much better even though your product is no different to many others ... and it's no different to selling useless blue widgets, shoelaces or the latest V12 gas guzzling Mercedes sports car either.

So if marketing our product is no different marketing any other product why do you think that our marketing opportunities are so limited?

Why do you sit there at your computer building sites and galleries, one-page wonders and popups that depend on people coming to you? Why aren't you getting out there and taking your message to them?

Why don't you be pro-active instead of reactive and get your message in front of more eyes than will ever see it if you hide your sales message on the Internet?

Don't know how to do it? Have you become so set in marketing concrete that if you're not showing full double anal in your marketing message you have no clue on how to convert prospects into buyers?

Damn you're sad if you don't because you're missing out on so many potential sales. Yes I know that it's a real challenge and I know that not many people in adult are prepared to venture out of their marketing comfort zone but who cares about them and why aren't you prepared to accept a challenge?

Why do you just sit around bleating about poor sales instead of getting out there and doing something about improving your sales figures?

If you don't know how then just stop and spend some time thinking - look around you at those who are advertising in various mediums other than the Net and learn from what you see them doing and don't simply dismiss other forms of advertising just because you can't post naked pictures or flooding cyberspace with a bazillion spam messages.

There are other ways of advertising in magazines and on billboards other than showing hardcore images. Think of how you might attract those people you may be able to sell to and then filtering out those that you can't sell to.

Start soft with something like an adult product that is acceptable in mainstream and draw in those who are interested - filter out those that you can't sell to or those that may not want to buy and then move the rest up a level. At each level offer them a product they can buy or a way they can move on to other things if they don't want to stay with you.

There are other more effective ways of doing it too ... ways that I haven't thought of ... but ways that could certainly work for you if you just care to think outside your comfort zone and ease up on the narrow marketing focus that you've developed.

Step out of your comfort zone and let your imagination run a little wild. You'll come up with some seemingly crazy ideas but don't dismiss them. Instead of simply saying ‘that won't work' explore the ways that you can make it work ... and you might be very surprised when it does actually work for you.
