Different Ways of Doing Things

Posted On: 2008-04-14

Ok so it's Monday and the weekend has just flown by. I certainly hope that your weekend was as good as mine and you're ready for a great week ahead. After such a crappy time last week you might think that I'm trying to talk this week up but I just know that it's going to be good.

Even though a Kaspersky update combined with a Windows update totally screwed my laptop this morning I just know this week is going to be a whole lot better than the last one. There's plenty of work in front of us plus the chance to pick up several new mainstream clients so it's definitely looking positive.

Marketing via Twitter
Has anyone tried marketing on Twitter yet? I have to say that it's not something that's every really interested me and I certainly don't have a Twitter account but there could be some interesting possibilities there ... especially if you're running a solo girl site. You could end up with some great opportunities to attract even more members if you could develop a reasonable followers list on Twitter.

And you might even be able to sell your Twitter account if you wanted to move on to other things. It's not specifically against Twitter's terms of service and you won't be the first one to sell your account. Rocketboom's founder is currently trying to sell his Twitter account.

And in case you haven't heard of Rocketboom I can tell you that it's a daily video blog and there's another interesting way of marketing if you have the equipment and you've been in marketing for a while. I'm not sure it's something that I'd want to get into because I really don't function very well when I have to speak in front of a camera but it could work for the right person.

Marketing one product a day
One interesting marketing blog that I came across this weekend is located right here in Australia. It's called Zazz and they sell one item each day and advertise it via a blog. They may have just one unit of that item or they may have hundreds but they only advertise it for one day and if they sell out in the first day then it's gone ... no rainchecks ... no backorders ... just plain gone.

Now there is an interesting concept and they have certainly built up quite a following. They sell lots of different things at some great prices ... but only for one day at a time. Some of the things they've had for sale lately have been great bargains but some of the other products they have are pretty much junk. I'm not sure how they make that business model work but it certainly does seem to be working ... but once again, I don't think it's really for me.

Marketing via SMS
SMS is another way of marketing products that I haven't tried before but it certainly looks interesting. The take-up of SMS in America isn't big compared to countries like Australia, Asia, Britain and Europe where SMS marketing is growing. In America around 35 percent of cell phone users say that they've never used text messaging at all.

I've got to admit that I rarely send text messages to anyone but Steve is often talking to his kids via text messages so it even works for older people and it does look like a great way of selling things. One marketing company in the UK has found that cell phone users are much more likely to respond positively to ads that arrive on their mobile phones than ads that they may see in other places and there are companies now that are offering SMS Gateways that allow you to send text message alerts direct from your website.

While that might not work all that well here in adult I can see some real possibilities for mainstream marketers and it seems that the cost of sending a message to a whole bunch of recipients via an SMS gateway is a whole lot less than sending them from your cell phone and a whole lot more convenient too.

Marketing your own brand
Now that's not as hard to do here in adult as you may think and it's also quite possible to do it over in mainstream too. There are a number of sponsors here in adult who offer affiliates their own branded sites and if you've got the traffic then there are some real possibilities for you to explore right there ... and that's only just the start.

In mainstream there are any number of opportunities to sell your own branded products. Take a wander through some of the manufacturer's portals for China and other parts of Asia and you'll soon find places that offer products that can carry your own brand.

The sky really is the limit when it comes to what you can market whether it be here in adult or over the fence in mainstream. All you have to do is to want to do something a little differently to what most affiliate marketers are prepared to try.

And now I'm off to enjoy the day.
