Don't Be Ashamed of What You Do

Now that I've worked in the adult industry, both online and off-line I've noticed something very interesting that afflicts those who work in both sides of this industry. Many of us are more than a little shy about telling people what we do.

I can understand that because there is a very unfortunate stigma attached to us. We are seen as being somehow less than the people who work over in mainstream. We are seen as being somehow tainted and even unclean by those who work in non-adult industries. And of course, we certainly can't be trusted can we.

With that sort of pre-judgment it's no wonder that we don't like telling people what we do. No matter how honest we really are and how much integrity we really have we're not to be trusted because we work in adult.

At the same time those who work in the mainstream, both online and off-line have no hassles telling people what they do. They're honest, full to over-flowing with integrity, more trustworthy than a saint and they only mix with the nicest people. They'll even tell you that on their websites and face-to-face.

But you would be surprised at just how such worthy, honest and trustworthy people can change in the blink of an eye if they think they can make a quick buck by being less than honest or even save a buck at the expense of someone else.

Take for example one guy in this town. When you look at his website you get the impression that he is one of the most amazingly talented people in his field and his work - totally unrelated to computers - is sought after by people all over the world ... and it's quite possible that it is. But he also sells second-hand computers loaded with unlicensed software out the back door.

Or what about the small business person who likes to drive a hard bargain and get those who provide services to them to reduce their fees down to sweatshop rates? And when they can't get the provider to lower their prices to that point they threaten to give them a bad reputation around town unless they do cut their prices.

Oh yes, mainstream certainly has plenty of business people who love to be upstanding and righteous in public but are just plain dodgy when they think no one is looking. Of course, we have those here in online and off-line adult too but, having worked both sides of the fence; it seems to me that there are more honest, hard-working people here in adult than there are over in mainstream.

I know that might sound rather hard to believe but that's certainly been my experience. So don't think that just because you work in online adult you are somehow less than anyone who works in mainstream because you are not. In fact,if you do have integrity and you are honest in your dealings with others then you really can hold your head up just as much as a genuinely honest businessman in mainstream.

Sure, you can still be a little circumspect about what you do, but don't be ashamed of what you do because you have nothing to be ashamed off. It's important to remember that because it can affect everything you do. If you let start thinking that we are somehow less than everyone else then it will impact on things right down into your personal life.

If you accept the fact that you have just as much honesty and integrity as other small business people in mainstream businesses... and a lot more than many you will find in mainstream ... then you can be proud of your achievements. You won't want to hide away, you will want to come out of your shell and be a real part of your local community.

I know that some of you will be saying that you don't care what others think about you and that's fine for you. But there are others who do often struggle with what the rest of the world sees as the truth and what we know to be the truth and it can have an unpleasant impact on our work.

A lot of you don't see what goes on behind those false smiles and fake reputations that you see in mainstream but when you do you soon understand that if we work with honesty and integrity we really do have nothing to be ashamed of. In fact we can hold our heads up while many in mainstream can't.

Think about it and don't be ashamed to be an honest small business person.
