Five Tips For Newbies

Posted On: 2014-04-17

In my mainstream business I have to deal with a lot of business owners who have absolutely no clue about how the Web works.

They expect to be on the top of Google's search results within days ... they expect their new website to be the solution to all their financial problems from the moment it goes live ... they expect that the low price they paid for the website will entitle them to free updates or complete rebuilds for life. And the list of unreal expectations just goes on and on.

Sadly though, unreal expectations aren't limited to just mainstream small business owners. Over the years I've seen plenty of unreal expectations over here in adult too so if you're new to this industry then here are five tips to help you understand how things really are here.

Things are not what they seem
Have you come into adult because it looks like a fast way to make money? Do you think that all you have to do is build one site or one gallery and the money will roll in? We've come across people who have thought that just one site or gallery would set them up for life.

If only that were true! The fact is that it may take months before you see your first few dollars roll in from a sponsor and you will be building sites and galleries on a daily basis from now on ... and each one will need to be better than the one before if you really want to make money here.

And even when the money is coming in life will not be easy. To keep that money flowing you will be working far harder and longer than you ever worked for your employer.

Forget 'build it and they will come'
In this industry you will rely on the good will of link lists and TGPs because they are the only ones that will send surfers to your websites and galleries ... surfers that you must turn into sales. You won't be able to rely on the search engines for anything and surfers certainly won't just fall out of cyber space.

So you will need to take time to read and understand the rules of all of those traffic sources. If you don't read and understand the rules no one will come to your sites. If you do read and understand the rules and then decide that you can ignore them no surfers will come to your sites.

If you try to scam those link lists and TGPs that send you traffic they will cut you off without a second thought and then where will that traffic that you need come from?

Obey your sponsors rules
Your sponsors want you to send them signups and in return they will pay you money but that doesn't mean that you can use any means available to send them those signups. Sponsors want happy customers ... not customers who feel that they have been conned ... and so they too have rules and you must follow them.

If you don't follow their rules they too will cut you off without a second thought ... and they will keep any money that they have been holding for you.

Play nice with other webmasters
In this business we are all competitors but that doesn't mean that you should go out and try to figuratively cut the throat of every other adult webmaster because most of those guys are also going to be your friend.

They'll help you with good advice that will save you money and bring you up to speed sooner. They'll also support and encourage you when you're feeling down ... and you will often feel down when the sales just aren't happening.

So treat them as you would want them to treat you and you could end up with friends for life ... I certainly have. On the other hand, if you do the wrong thing you will end up with enemies that will destroy you.

Don't give up your day job
Most people who come into this industry do so because they want to make money and quite their day job. The siren song of being your own boss is an attraction that brings many people to this industry ... but don't quit your day job.

At least, don't quit it just yet. Be prepared to work long hours at your day job and then come home and work long hours here because that's what you will be facing for at least a year or two. There are no instant riches to be made here and there will be times when your income will fluctuate wildly so don't rush to leave your day job.

Of course quitting your day job and becoming a full-time adult webmaster should be your goal but don't rush the process. Make sure that you're seeing a solid and regular income stream from this business before you quite your day job.

And that's the reality here ... ignore what I say at your peril.
