Well after a crazy week last week followed by a great weekend where Steve and I kicked back and did hardly anything other than rest I'm ready for another big week. So let's jump straight into the third in this series for beginners ... and those who have made a start in adult marketing but might be finding the going a little tough.

Build your own traffic pumps
I ended the second part of this series last week with a suggestion that you learn about traffic and that really is vital if you want to survive and grow in this industry or over the other side of the fence in mainstream online marketing.

You're never going to make a sale if you don't have people coming to your marketing websites so you need to learn all you can about traffic. You need to understand how to get it from those who control large amounts of traffic and you need to know what to do with it once you have it coming to your sites.

Once you have a basic grasp of those things you need to start building your own traffic pumps ... sites that people will keep on coming back to ... sites that will give you the traffic to then distribute among your other marketing sites.

There are quite a few different types of traffic pump sites and if you want to grow in this business you've got to start building them all. You can never have too much traffic and you can never have too much control over traffic so don't think that this is something you can pass on.

When you can build your own traffic sources and control that traffic you are on your way to gaining control of your destiny. Does that sound a little melodramatic? It probably does but that's life when you're selling on the Internet.

If you rely on others for your traffic you'll always be just one click away from disaster because that's all it will take for any or all of your traffic suppliers to cut you off from the one thing your business life depends on.

Build your own inbound links
Don't confuse inbound links with inbound traffic. Sure there are some similarities but even though inbound links may not directly send you much traffic they can be very important. Basically Google sees every inbound link as being a vote for the site that it's pointing to and the number of 'votes' a site might have is an important part of Google's algorithm.

Now getting inbound links to your sites ... especially sites that don't comply with the rules set down by TGPs and link lists can be hard ... so start building your own link lists. Start building a linking network between your sites and between your marketing pages and go on building them day after day.

I can tell you right now that the adult sites that do really well in the search engines for a wide variety of terms often belong to just one or two people and those guys have built up huge interlinking networks that pass 'votes' around and give them those top rankings. They've been building those networks for years and they'll go on building them for as long as they stay in the business.

So learn from their experience and start building your own inbound links.

Learn about search engine optimisation
Yes ... if you've been reading my columns here and over on Porn Resource you'll know that I can hardly go a week without mentioning search engine optimisation. I'm like that because SEO is such a vital part of marketing online.

If you don't know how the search engines work and what you have to do to a web page or a website to make it rank well in the search engines ... or you're not prepared to learn those skills ... then you may as well give up right now because without your own traffic and without good search engine rankings you'll be facing an up-hill struggle to survive.

The trick in learning about search engine optimisation is to know what works for you and to know who the true search engine optimisation experts are. There are a lot of people who talk the SEO talk but who really haven't got a clue and have never taken the time to do any testing of their own.

Spend time testing everything that you read about SEO and you will discover the truth. Follow everything that others say without doing any testing of your own and you'll waste your valuable time chasing phantoms.
