It's All Been Done Before

Wow it's just about the end of August already and that means the start of spring where I live, the start of fall where many of you guys live and the end of the summer slowdown ... maybe.

For many of us it will be the end of the summer slowdown and surfers will start coming back to our sites to enjoy some great adult content but others won't be so lucky. Many people who are starting out in this industry are going to be struggling because it's definitely not as easy to make money as it once was.

But then we're not the only industry that is finding that it's not as easy to make money as it once was. Pardon the pun but the classic music industry is a classic example and one that should resonate with us.

It seems that it's pretty hard for the classic music industry to sell their products these days. It's not that people are no longer interested in classical music; it's just that the lovers of classical music have heard it all before so they're not buying new CDs. But that doesn't seem to be getting through to the people at the top of the recording industry because the industry goes on churning out more of the same.

For example since CDs first hit the market there have been over 450 different recordings released of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. I don't know how many different ways you can play Vivaldi's Four Seasons but the market was probably over-saturated by the time 50 or so different recordings had hit the market so the last thing the world needs is another recording of the Four Seasons.

Unfortunately no one at the top of the music industry seems to be paying attention.

And what is the lesson for us here in adult? Perhaps the lesson for us is that our market doesn't need another TGP or link list and it probably doesn't need anymore galleries or free sites either. In fact I can remember people saying that several years ago so if we were well and truly saturated then now we must be drowning in the stuff.

So what are newbies to do if not produce more TGPs and more galleries and more free sites? Perhaps it's time for those newbies who really want to succeed here to start thinking outside of the box and to look at other ways of selling adult products online ... ways that are different to what has already been done to death.

Of course before you can start thinking outside of the proverbial box you need to find out what that box really looks like but I wonder if newbies can do that without the need to build yet another free site or gallery. There are certainly plenty of examples out there for them to learn from ... and I'm not talking about examples of how to build a free site or a gallery. The examples I think newbies should be looking at are those finely crafted ads that some people can write.

Instead of learning how to put insert thumbnails into HTML pages and then link those thumbnails to big pictures they should be learning how to speak to their target audient. The tone and ‘voice' that those experienced marketers write in is also something that newbies can learn from. Those are the basics that newbies really need to understand because once they have a grasp of the principles of effective marketing then they can go on and be innovative in the way they deliver their message.

Of course newbies are rarely told to be innovative. Instead they're told to go on building more free sites and more galleries and repeating what worked for everyone else. It doesn't matter if the old recipe isn't working so well these days; newbies are told it's the only way to make money in this industry.

And that's rather ironic really because we're supposed to be the leaders in online marketing and yet we stay stuck in the rut of what worked years ago but doesn't work so well now. Instead of encouraging newbies to come up with new ideas we keep forcing them to adapt to our old worn-out ways.

So if you are a newbie then my advice to you is learn how to sell things, learn how to craft killer sales pitches and learn how to combine text, images and even video into a sales pitch that the surfers can't resist. Then go out and put it into something that doesn't look like another free site or gallery ... make it new and interesting to the surfer and then see if you can't outsell those of us who are stuck doing things the old way.

Of course you'll hear people complain about the what you're attempting to achieve but if it puts money in your pocket then don't listen to anyone who wants to tell you that you're guaranteed to fail.

The fact is that, at the moment, it's all been done before and if you want to make money then find a new way of selling your product that's outside the box that the rest of us are locked in.
