Losers Complain - Winners Remain Positive

Monday has rolled around once again and for us the weekend is definitely over. There's plenty of work to be done and we've come back from a couple of days away so refreshed that we're really keen to get stuck into it.

We had a great time while we were away too ... basically we did nothing other than rest but that was definitely what we needed and it worked well because the weather was not the best. But we didn't need bright sunshine to have a great time doing as little as possible.

So how did you spend your Easter? Did you spend it having a good time or working hard or just complaining about how tough times are? I only ask that because it seems that there are quite a few people around at the moment who want to spend a lot of time complaining publicly about how tough life is for them at the moment.

One guy I know is one Twitter every single day moaning about how he's not making any money, how he just can't find the will to do any work, how all he needs is a couple of month-long jobs and he'll be right but all he can get at the moment are small jobs that require a lot of research yet pay very little.

Now by his own admission his skill-set is very limited so why should he be complaining that he's spending time on research? Sure he may not be paid a great deal for that time spent developing his skills but you might think that by expanding his skills he's improving his chances of getting more work?

You might also think that small jobs are often the best because once they're done they're over and you move on. With bigger jobs there's more likelihood of time overruns and in this business you rarely get paid by the hour for long jobs. Instead you settle on a price for the job and if it the job takes longer then that's a cost that you have to wear.

Sadly he's not the only one who seems to want to waste time complaining about their situation ... and that's exactly what it is, a total waste of time. Sure your situation might be difficult ... you may be struggling to make money but what positive effect is complaining about it going to have?

Personally I can't think of one positive effect complaining about your situation might have. I can certainly think of a number of a number of very negative effects complaining will have and we should think about them here.

There's no doubt that times may be tough for you but by complaining about them you're reinforcing the idea in your mind that times are bad and you're not going to survive. Once you start thinking like that then it does become harder to survive because you're telling yourself that you won't and it's a reinforcement that gets played over and over till it becomes impossible for you to believe anything else.

When you need to be working and actually producing something that will make you money your mind is filled with thoughts of your miserable financial position and instead of being creative you're lost in what Pilgrim's Progress called the Slough of Despond ... a swamp that you'll never be able to extract yourself from. So, once again, when you continually focus on your poor financial situation you will continue to stay stuck in it.

And while you're busy complaining ... especially if you're doing it publicly ... you're sending the totally wrong message to anyone who might want to pay you for your services. Who is going to pay you to do a job for them if all you seem to do online all day, every day, is whine about how little money you have?

Complaining about your poor financial situation only goes to show others that even you think you're a total failure and who in their right mind is going to employ someone who is a failure?

So if you're facing tough times right now ... and you really do want to succeed ... then don't complain about your situation. Instead maintain a positive mental attitude and display that attitude to the world.

When you're positive about your ability to overcome your current situation you have far more chance of surviving because you'll keep on working and keep on striving to make the money that you know you can. If you're offering your services to other businesses online and in the real world then go on displaying a positive attitude there too because people like to employ winners and very few people ever want to employ a loser.

So stay positive and don't let yourself drift into the situation where all you do is complain. When you stay positive you have far more chance of surviving and prospering no matter how bleak the situation might look right now.
