Selling Porn to Women

Posted On: 2014-08-29

There was a time when I thought that I must be rather strange ... completely different to almost every other woman on the planet ... perhaps even warped and twisted.

Why did I think that? Because I liked porn and it was common "knowledge" that women didn't like porn ... women never looked at porn and women never bought it either. Boy were we ever sold a pile of garbage with that idea but I believed it and so did just about every other porn marketer on the planet.

So when I started selling porn I never focused on women ... my target market was men. I could have sold to women ... there were two websites out there that focused on women and had affiliate programs ... but why bother? Women didn't look at porn.

For a time I did think that I might have been mistaken because I did have a woman sign up for my own paysite but that turned out to be a guy using his partner's credit card. I never thought for a moment that she might have been looking at the site too.

And of course I was mistaken ... in fact every adult webmaster who rubbished the idea of selling porn to women because women didn't look at porn was mistaken. Women were ... and are ... looking at porn and they certainly had been doing that long before the Web appeared on the scene.

They hadn't been forced to do it ... they did it because they enjoyed it ... but no one seemed to understand that. We were all convinced that women didn't need to look at porn because they were somehow different to normal human beings.

And that's what we should have realised ... women are human beings and human beings are attracted to porn. We all like to see other humans enjoying sex ... we all have sexual fantasies and porn gives us all the chance to explore those fantasies.

But maybe the sort of porn we women like to see and the way it helps us explore our fantasies might be a little different to what works for men. Or is it?

A journalist recently wrote an article, that appeared in a mainstream newspaper here in Australia, in which she admitted that she was a fan of hardcore porn. She enjoys the sight of adults having sex in all its forms and there is nothing wrong with porn.

She sees porn as a great way to escape the crazy stresses of today's world and forget about the bills and the all those other things that we worry about. She sees porn as a great way for couples to quickly get on the same page when it comes to desire.

One half of the couple might be looking for some hot fun while the other one isn't so interested but that can all change quite quickly when they sit down and watch a porno. And what better way for a couple to learn how to share things that they've never tried before than to watch it in a porn movie and then try it ... and I can relate to that ... it has worked for me and my partners.

For most women nothing beats the skin-to-skin action in whatever type of action that turns her on but when that's not available porn is a perfectly acceptable substitute ... and in some cases it's a safe substitute too.

Some women may have issues with the fact that for years men have dominated the industry ... which is strange in a way because in 99 percent of porn it's the woman who is the star and the man who is just the stunt-cock. But the fact is that quite a few women are now producing and directing porn.

I'm not sure that you can actually tell the difference between something a guy produced and something a woman produced ... unless you go to some of the more brutal and degrading extremes ... but it's not hard to find content that has been produced by women so maybe we should be using that as a marketing hook.

And that brings me to the other hooks that we should be using as we try and sell our products to women. Just read through this column again and you will see a number of hooks that you can use to make your product sound more appealing to women ... so why not use them?

Why ignore a segment of the market that most of us have ignored for far too long? Think about how you would market porn to women and then start doing it ... women have money and many of them aren't afraid to spend it on porn.
