Some Links and Other Stuff

Wow right now in Australia it's the depths of winter in most parts of the country but at this end of the country we're near the tropics and it's almost a summer's day here.

The sun is shining there's a very slight breeze in the palm trees and I'm wanting to head for the beach and maybe even start working on a tan. I just walked past my partner's desk and it's obvious he's thinking about the onset of warm weather too ... he's looking at some posing guides.

Shooting your own content
Now back when we ran my amateur site Steve did almost all of the photography ... and he didn't do such a bad job either. We even had some of his photos of me published in a men's mag that was popular at the time so he's obviously got a few clues but now we're doing a university-based photography course together he wants to go a whole lot further.

Those were wild days and fun but we've moved on from there so I doubt that he was looking at the posing guides with a view to going back to photographing naked women but if you want to try something like that then those guides are a good place to start. They'll give you some ideas of how to have the model appear in front of the camera because there's nothing more boring than photos of a girl who really doesn't know what to do with her arms and legs, hips and ass.

You'll find some good guides by heading over to digital-photo-school.com and doing a search for 'posing guides' and try the same search term in Google for even more suggestions.

Of course finding the guides and having a camera are just half the battle ... finding girls who will pose for you can be quite a challenge and you always have to cover your ass with model releases and suitable documentation to prove that your models are of a legal age.

But once you have girls who are prepared to work with you it can turn into a lot of fun ... even if you keep your pants on ... and we used to have a lot of laughs with the girls who worked with us.

A beginners guide to responsive web design
If you've been trying to get up to speed with this subject and trying to develop your own designs rather than using templates or WordPress themes then here's a link that you might find useful ... teamtreehouse.com/blog/beginners-guide-to-responsive-web-design ... it's definitely a copy and paste.

As I've said several times here there's no doubt that responsive web design is the way things are going and if you don't keep up then you're going to be left behind. We had a call this morning from another web designer who wants to send his clients to us to when they want him to build a mobile website because he doesn't seem to know what to do.

Somehow he's fallen so far behind that it's getting easier for him to call on others to do the work for him so don't end up like him. Keep up with where the industry is going and you won't have to spend money on getting others to do work that you should be able to do for yourself.

Adult toys ... why not?
I was not surprised today to read a big headline in a major Australian paper that suggested that adult toy stores were reporting increased sales since 50 Shades of Grey became required reading for every female under the age of 85.

That book and the others that followed have been in the headlines for some months now and the longer it has stayed in the headlines the more obvious it has become that the sales of sex toys ... lingerie ... whips and paddles were all going to increase. And they have increased.

So if common sense told us that sales of those items were going to increase then why didn't you bother to start promoting them? The news that the books were creating a lot of interest was out there and while some women would be bold enough to walk into an adult shop many more would have been looking online so why did you just let all those cashed up purchasers go somewhere else?

And if they're interested in buying sexy toys and reading toe-curling sex novels then do you think they're going to come looking for porn? You better believe that they're out there looking for hardcore action so are you offering them what they want or are you still trying to sell them on stuff that doesn't interest them.

And what's going to interest all those readers of 50 Shades of Grey? Maybe you better read the book to find out.
