As we work here in adult online most of us tend to use a heck of a lot of images of girls and couples having sex. We focus on the technical aspects of the videos and images as we resize them and choose the images that are going to have the greatest impact on our surfers and so, hopefully, help make some sales for us.

If you're new to the industry what's actually going on in those images might get you excited too and that's not surprising. I know that a lot of people come into this industry because they think that one of the great advantages of working here is that you get to look at porn all day.

Of course, after you've been here a while you tend not to see all that hardcore action going on in the images and videos ... it's all just grist to the mill and stuff that will put money in our pockets. Five minutes after you've built a gallery you probably won't even remember what color hair the model had. We stop seeing the real people and the real sex and sooner or later those images and video stop having much affect on us.

It's not that we've somehow become turned off to great sex ... it's just that when you start seeing it every day, unless you're actually involved in it, it's not going to turn you on. And seriously, that can be a very good thing because you start to think objectively about the content and not subjectively by how aroused it's made you become.

At the same time though we begin to forget that we're dealing with images of real people and without those real people who are prepared to have sex in front of the camera we would have nothing to work with. I know that there are plenty of webmasters who regard those people we rely on ... the models or the talent as some people call them ... as nothing more than mindless sluts who aren't worth thinking about.

And if it's important for you to have someone to look down on and you choose to look down on the talent then I feel sorry for you because many of those models, who do what they do so you can make money, are far better people than you will ever be. It doesn't really matter what you call them or what you think of them ... the fact that you look down on them is enough to elevate them well above you.

The fact is that those models are real people just like you and me. They do what they do to survive ... to put food on their tables and provide a roof over their heads ... and hopefully to prosper too. And just like us, those models have been finding life harder in these tough economic times.

A few years ago an attractive girl doing a straight boy/girl scene could expect to make something close to a thousand dollars for the shoot. If she was really good and content shooters knew that she would really put some effort into the action she could make even more.

If she was lucky she could expect to have work as a model for at least several years and possibly more if she had a good agent who really went out of his or her way to market the models he or she managed.

At those rates a model could make a reasonably comfortable living for years but things are changing. As times have got tougher not only has the going rate for a boy/girl shoot come down ... way down. More girls have also come into the industry and that has not only restricted the amount of work a girl might get in a week or month but also made her time as a model much shorter.

These days, depending on which side of the United States a photographer is shooting on the going rate for a model can be as low as $500 or less and she has to be very good and very well managed and promoted to still be able to pick up work a year after she first started in the industry unless of course she's working in some very focused niche area.

And then there are the health risks that our models face too. The fact that some girls are prepared to work for such relatively small amounts despite those risks is no indication of the type of person some of them are ... it's more an indication of how desperate some of them are for a job that actually pays.

For some others it's an indication of how, just like so many adult webmasters, they thought they could make lots of money in this industry and weren't aware of the reality.

So the next time you build a gallery or a free site stop and have a look at the girl that's appearing in those images and say ‘thank you' because without her and all the others like her you would have nothing to show the surfers that you want to convert into cash in your pocket. Without her you wouldn't survive ... put food on your table or keep a roof over your head ... and you sure wouldn't be prospering either.

As long as she's prepared to work at job most of you would never be prepared to do you're still in the game so be a little respectful ... the talent deserve it.
