Wow, I know that it's supposed to be winter in the Southern Hemisphere but it's not supposed to be this cold here in Queensland. Here we're supposed to enjoy balmy weather in winter with only a few days where you need to dress warmly but for the last week it's been so cold ... and it's supposed to go on like this for at least another week.

We moved up here for the warm winters and now we get cold weather ... we might have to move even further north before next winter. Well, only in my dreams ... the fact is that we love this place and we aren't moving anywhere.

So how determined are you? And here I'm not just talking about where you live; I'm talking about life in general.

You see, determination is one of the most important attributes you can have if you want to be a success at just about everything ... including life. You simply must have the driving determination to succeed in whatever you do or you're never going to succeed at anything.

That's something that is especially true in this industry ... you might have come into it because you were told that it's an industry where making money is easy ... but it hasn't taken long for you to see the truth. Just like any other business, this is one where you need to work hard to succeed.

Sadly there are so many people who don't understand that. Just recently a friend of ours has been trying to help a guy who wanted to learn basic HTML. He lasted about two weeks and then gave up because even basic HTML seemed all too hard. If you've been in this industry for a while you will have seen people like that too ... if it looks like being hard work they turn to vapor and disappear.

So do you have the determination to succeed? Are you willing to work hard all day every day? Are you prepared to stick at it for however long it takes?

If you do then you will succeed but if you're someone who likes the easy life and isn't really interested in hard work at all then I've got news for you. The exit door is just ahead of you and there are a lot of people using it every day.

Search Engine Usage
The Pew Internet and American Life Project released it's most recent survey into search engine usage the other day and it really is something that you should read if your involved in making money online. Yes I know that reading the results of surveys can be dull and boring but surveys like this can give you a real insight into how people interact with the Internet.

When you understand that interaction you're on your way to making a more money online and isn't that one of our main goals?

Here are just a couple of the more interesting findings from the survey. Using a search engine is now drawing closer to being the activity most people do when they go online. Email is still the main activity for most people who go online every day but using a search engine is getting closer to the top spot.

Internet users with broadband are more likely to use search engines than those who are on dial-up. Men seem to use search engines more frequently than women and men seem to be able to distinguish more clearly between paid and organic search results.

People who use search engines on a daily basis are more likely to have a college education and a higher disposable income than most so they're definitely a market that's worth targeting. Those results of the survey also mean that the search engine market is one that is worth researching because things are changing all the time and what works today and attracts hits from those with money to spend probably won't work in the future.

You might even find that the main Google search engine may not be the best place to target in some situations. Right now we're seeing some distinct advantages in a good listing in some of their smaller search engines for some of our mainstream clients and that could work for you too.

And now I'm off to find a nice hot cup of coffee to wrap my cold fingers around. Not long ago I saw a pair of USB connected heated gloves in a catalogue and laughed at the thought that anyone would want to buy something like that. Now I wish I could remember where I saw them because I need a pair on mornings like this.
