Things to Think About

So how are you traveling today? Are you achieving the goals that you've set for today or are you struggling to stay focused?

I know that it can be hard ... especially when you really don't feel like working ... when you're telling yourself that you've worked day and night for weeks and you just want a little time for yourself ... but what one leading blogging expert said a couple of days ago really puts what you're doing ... or not doing ... into focus.

Darren Rowse said: "What you do with your time today shapes your future - so based on what you're doing ... how does your future look?"

That basically says it all doesn't it? It might even be a little harsh but it's so true. So true that we rarely want to think in those stark terms.

If today is a day where you want to get some work done but you can't focus ... or you're feeling sorry for yourself ... then get over it because you're never going to achieve the future that you want for yourself if you can't get focused on the things you need to do today.

So what do you need to achieve today? Do you even know what you want to achieve today or are you just sitting at your computer doing "things" without really having any clear objectives in mind?

Of course you're building and submitting but what else do you want to do today? How do you intend to advance your business and your knowledge today? How much time are you really wasting just staring at the monitor ... surfing the Web ... or hanging out on your favourite message board?

Can you really stay focused long enough to do anything that you have to do today?

Some years ago a friend of mine decided that he had a major problem with GFY. He just couldn't stay away from it long enough to get anything done. He would constantly interrupt what he was doing and go back and refresh the board to see what was happening ... and I can relate to that.

In the end he made the decision to do something with some coding in his browser so that it was impossible for him to even see GFY anymore. At the time I thought it would only be a matter of days before he reversed that coding but I was wrong. He beat his time-wasting habit and his productivity went up.

So what time-wasting habits have you developed and what can you do to overcome them so that your productivity might go up?

And while we're thinking about personal productivity perhaps we should also be thinking of ways that we can make some of the pages on our websites more productive ... and for us a page that is more productive is a page that sends more traffic to our sponsors.

So which pages can we make more productive and should we just concentrate on one page or are there ways we can make all of our pages more productive?

It's a bit of a cop out to think that we're already doing as much as we can with every page on the free sites we build ... we show some ads ... we include some text ... we might even toss in a call to action on the gallery pages ... but is that really enough?

Perhaps it's time to wander over to mainstream and look at the landing page tutorials that some of the leading mainstream marketers have written. They might just open your eyes to the fact that even our gallery pages could be a whole lot better than what they are now.

And the second page ... the page with the links to our gallery pages ... is so under-done by so many webmasters. Look at landing page designs and then think about how plain and how boring your second page probably looks.

Even if you do nothing with the gallery pages at least take some time to be a little more creative with your second page and the time you spend developing some templates for that second page could be some of the most productive time you will ever spend.

And here's another thought about creating more effective pages. If you have a look at what mainstream is doing and then replicate it in a way that is suitable for adult you will begin blurring the demarcation lines between adult and mainstream that exist in the minds of most surfers.

When those demarcation lines begin to blur then I expect that the strong distrust that so many surfers have for adult sites will begin to weaken. You might see more signups simply because your pages look more like what people see over on mainstream.

It's just something for you to think about.
