Three Sure Ways to Fail in Adult

Posted On: 2013-05-09

Let's face it ... there are far more ways to fail in this industry than there are to succeed and you can bet that right now someone is almost certainly finding a totally new way to destroy their online business.

For now though let's just focus on three of the most common mistakes that can send you down the slippery slope to failure so that newbies may perhaps learn something and survive longer than many newcomers do. Here they are in no particular order.

1. Beginners Attitude
Now not every newbie hits this industry with this attitude ... some do arrive here ready to learn everything they possibly can ... but sadly many don't. So what is this attitude of which I speak?

If you think that you already have a plan that you know will make you a zillion bucks in the first two months and the industry has nothing to teach you then you're heading for disaster.

If you think that you will get people to sign up by showing them more porn than anyone else does on their free sites and galleries then you're heading for failure. There's a very good reason why smart marketers limit the amount of free porn they show people.

If you think that just because you've done a marketing major or minor in college you know how things work here then you are definitely headed for disaster. While some marketing principles do apply both here in adult and over in mainstream there are some very unique features about marketing in adult and I'm sure they don't teach any of those in college.

2. Confusing Entertaining with Marketing
So many people come into this business with the idea of building mega sites that are full of hardcore images and video with just an occasional banner here or there because they think that's what will sell. If that's what you think then you seriously need to think again because you're confused about what your roll is in this industry.

If you've just arrived then your roll is to make money by encouraging the people who visit your sites to sign up with your sponsors. Your roll is to sell your sponsors to those people who visit your sites. It is the sponsor's roll to entertain.

Understand the difference and how that will influence the sites you build and you have a much better chance of survival here than those newbies who can't tell the difference between entertaining and marketing.

3. Relying on Others
When newbies arrive here they need all the help they can get ... and there's plenty of sites out there where they can get great advice and all the help they need. At the same time there's a lot of misinformation out there and if you're a newbie and you want to survive then don't rely totally on what others tell you.

Do your own research ... do some testing ... be a little adventurous ... take responsibility for your success or failure and grow. Those who don't take any responsibility for their own success but instead rely on others for everything are never going to succeed.

If you're a newbie then you need to understand that you're not joining some sort of club filled with people who want to help you become a zillionaire. You're joining an industry where the smart and savvy survive and the rest either perish or never reach the goals they dreamed of.

Which of those three categories you fit into is entirely up to you.
