Three Tips for All Webmasters

Posted On: 2011-05-02

Over on Porn Resource for the next week or so I'm running a series of tips for newbies to this industry. They're not the usual sort of tips that you see around the place that tell newcomers to this industry how to design their sites or how to get traffic ... these tips are aimed more at the sort of person you need to be ... or become ... if you want to survive.

So as a something of an introduction to that series and to encourage you to head over there and see how you measure up I thought today I might give you a little food for thought. These don't just apply to newbies either ... even if you've been in this industry for a while you may still find some value in what I have to suggest.

Positive self-image
I guess over the years I've met thousands of people and one thing that many of them have in common is a very poor self-image. They think in terms of being hopeless, dumb, stupid even, fat, uncoordinated, clumsy, useless ... and the list could go on and on.

So how do you see yourself? What sort of person is living inside your skin? Do you think of yourself in such derogatory terms as I've just mentioned or do you think that you are smart, clever, funny, attractive and the sort of person that people want to be around?

You may well wonder what your self-image has to do with being successful in this industry but frankly it has everything to do with being successful. If you're always beating up on yourself and have no self-esteem then you're geared up for failure and failure becomes an acceptable outcome.

When your attitude towards yourself is more positive and you see yourself as being a person of worth and someone who can succeed then you are geared up to succeed. Failure is unacceptable and you succeed because you have a positive outlook and you expect to succeed.

Transitioning from a negative perspective of yourself to a more positive one isn't easy but if you want to succeed then you have to do it. And it is something that you have to do for yourself because no one else will do it for you. As one expert suggests, see yourself as you really want to be and the transition will begin to happen.

Starting can be difficult
Some years ago I knew a guy in this industry who was constantly working and all that hard work paid off. His income was well above the average for an adult webmaster and his sites continued to do well. After several years of really hard work he decided to take a holiday so off he went and had a great time.

He had such a great time that he didn't want to come back so he stayed away for a few more weeks ... and then a few more ... and in the end it was months before he came back home. That wasn't such a big deal because he could afford to be away for that long but by the time he got back he just wasn't interested in all that hard work anymore and he had been away so long that he found that it was almost like starting all over again.

If you're just starting out you have to understand that things will be hard. You'll work long hours for not much income and the effort it takes to continue will hardly seem worth it ... but that's what you have to do.

If you've been around for a while and you decide to take a break just make sure that it's not a long one. Getting started again will be just as hard ... if not harder ... the second time around so try and keep your business rolling along even if you do take some time off because getting it all happening again might be just too hard.

Be the real you
For some reason there seems to be a belief in this industry that you have to be a playa to succeed. You have to behave in a certain way ... act like a gangsta ... or people won't look up to you or want to work with you.

Well if you want to impress a whole bunch of clueless newbies then I guess you need to behave in what ever way you think is appropriate but if you want to be accepted as a genuine business person in this industry then act like one. Impressing newbies is for fools ... being a real player in the adult industry means being someone that other players are prepared to do business with.

So act like a real person rather than an idiot and you just might get a whole lot further in this industry than you had hoped.
