What Are You Doing About Traffic?

Ok so it's Friday and most of the time that's about my most favorite day of the week because we can wind down after a crazy week and enjoy a fairly relaxing weekend. Unfortunately today is not for winding down and this weekend is not for relaxing.

All in all it's been a totally insane week and, while the insanity levels may drop a little today and over the weekend, it's going to be a very busy weekend. If it doesn't rain we will be spending most of it on the road doing some scenery photography and if it does rain we'll be in the home office building out some of our own projects.

Of course that's the plan but there are any number things that can pop up and destroy that plan and it's been that way all week. I know that over on Porn Resource I talked about setting up a calendar and blocking out hours of time so that you can focus on specific jobs ... and that does work for me ... but this week so many little things kept popping up and biting chunks out of those blocks that I haven't been able to get into any sort of rhythm.

Maybe next week will be better although I can already see stuff that's been slotted into my calendar that is going to totally disrupt several of my days.

So how has your week been? Have you been kicking ass and taking names or have you been struggling to get some momentum up to take you through the tasks you were planning on working on during the week?

One of the tasks that we should all be working but seldom think about is building bigger and bigger streams of traffic to our websites. We tend to focus on just a couple of sources of traffic ... usually link lists or tubes or TGPs ... and think that's all we need to make a comfortable living. We tend to think that because we're in the business of selling porn then that's the only places that we can look for traffic ... but that's a big mistake.

Don't beat yourself up if you are just concentrating on one or two sources of traffic. You're not the only one who is doing it here in adult and it's something that a lot of website owners are doing over in mainstream too. Here in adult it's those link lists, tubes and TGPs I mentioned earlier; over in mainstream their focus for traffic is Google and of course those mainstream guys struggle.

Mention Facebook, Youtube or Instagram to a small business owner over in mainstream and they instantly start whining about not having enough time. Mention those same traffic sources here in Adult and I'm sure a huge number of webmasters would think you were crazy and yet you can pull some great targeted traffic from those places if only you stop thinking that it can't be done.

It can be done ... and it is being done ... by people who are prepared to think a little differently to the way most adult webmasters think. Here we are so focused on displaying the hardest of hardcore action but you can't do that on Facebook or Youtube.

Over there you can't show nudity and you certainly can't show any hardcore action but that's not stopping paysite owners like New Sensations from using Facebook, Youtube and Twitter to promote their sites. If they can invest time and money into those areas why aren't you looking at ways of pulling in some traffic from those sources.

And while you are thinking of those maybe you should also be thinking of Instagram, Periscope and Blab. They're all different so one approach will not fit all but the one thing that they all have in common is lots of ways to attract people to your websites.

Sure it's going to take some thought and it's going to take some effort and it probably won't be as easy as building and submitting free sites, galleries and videos to tube sites but what if it does bring you more qualified traffic than those methods that have been around since last century and these give you nothing but a bunch of free-loaders.

Times are definitely changing and if we don't change, if we go on relying on the same old ways that are becoming less and less effective then our businesses are going to die.

So what have you got to lose by experimenting with Facebook, Youtube and the others? Look at what some of the paysites are doing on there for some ideas and then give it a go. Just because your sponsors aren't using social media doesn't mean that you can't and you might be surprised at the results
