What Comes Next?

So here I sit, watching a five-minute video take over two hours to upload ... yes such is the state of technology here in Australia that a low file-size video takes so long to upload that I could have a nap while it's uploading.

Of course, some of that delay is probably caused by congestion at Youtube ... but then it took about the same length of time to upload to Facebook. There could also be some bandwidth issues thanks to the new Pokemon craze sweeping the country but if I were to be totally honest the main cause for the delay is the crappy connection we Australians have to the rest of the planet.

At one time we were all going to get a really super-fast connection featuring optic fibre to the home but a Luddite politician managed to bluff his way into becoming our Prime Minister and he canned that idea. According to him, people were only ever going to download movies so why waste billions of dollars when he could give us something cheaper.

So eventually we are going to end up with a super-fast connection that comes to a screaming halt before it even reaches us because, under this Luddite's wonderful scheme to save money, it ends at a node somewhere up the road. From there we'll have to rely on the old copper network that most of us are struggling with now.

In some ways that idea of only doing a half-assed job of connecting Australia to the 21st Century reminds me of what many adult webmasters try to do. They want to make money but they go on trying to do it the same old way as they've always done it rather than trying new techniques and new technology.

Just like the Luddite who destroyed our hopes of being truly competitive online, they don't understand that the world and the market place has moved on and if we don't move with it then we're going to be left behind.

Speaking of new technology ... where do you think the adult industry is headed with the new technology that is beginning to appear? Of course we are seeing lots of movement towards mobile technology ... although some studies are showing that a very group of people still prefer to do their online business via a desktop computer rather than a tablet or a mobile phone.

In that move to mobile technology we're also seeing some limited forms of artificial intelligence becoming available. Apple has Siri and Microsoft has Cortana so how long will it be before an app appears that includes a girl who talks to you is used to sell you porn or give directions to the nearest live sex venue or the nearest escort?

Here in adult some webmasters have always tried to grow their business by providing escort directories but I'm not sure just how successful those enterprises have been. There has always been a certain reluctance by independent sex workers to sign up for things like escort directories.

Those directories have always promised the girls a lot but rarely delivered anything like what the workers paid for so will there be enough income to produce and adults only version of something like Siri or Cortana?

If you were interested in doing the hard work to produce something like that then I wouldn't want to stop you but finding the girls or the services to ‘populate' your AI directory, and getting them to part with a listing fee, might not be so easy.

And if you can't get the listings then how are you going to make any money? Maybe in years to come the providers of sexual services might be more willing to part with their money for a listing but right now most workers around the world probably don't see any value in any sort of online listing.

But that doesn't mean that we should give up the idea of incorporating some form of artificial intelligence into something for the adult industry. While a directory may not work there may be lots of scope for some form of AI girlfriend ... or girlfriends ... who could take your fantasies to a whole new level.

Combine that "girlfriend" with point of view sex overlaid on the user's location and you never know how much product you might sell ... especially if you offered a number of different girls / guys as additional add-ons.

If we don't already have the technology, then perhaps we're almost there and if we are then it's time someone in the adult industry started looking at ways of making money from it. Maybe you're the person who can produce the next big thing for the adult industry.
