Wow it's the last day of April already ... it's hard to believe that a third of the year is over already! And what a year it's turning out to be. We're right into a major financial crisis that's impacting on the world and now we've got a new type of influenza that's come right out of nowhere and in just a week has reached pandemic status.

It's at times like this that a lot of people who used to be quite happy going to work 9 to 5 every day are starting to wonder about working from home. Of course many of them then start to think that the best way to make money at home is by working online and from there it's only a short step to making the false assumption that the easiest and fastest way to make money online is by selling porn.

If that's where you're at right now then let me repeat what I often say both here and when I'm talking to people face-to-face ... it's certainly not impossible to make money here but it isn't easy and it isn't a fast way to wealth either and succeeding here is going to depend primarily on the sort person you are. There are some things in your makeup that you do need if you want to succeed here and there are some things that you don't need.

So let's look at those right now.

A background in marketing and design
One of the things that you don't need to succeed in this industry is a background in marketing or web design. In fact having some training in either of those two disciplines can be more of a hindrance than a help when it comes to selling porn.

If you do have a background in either of those disciplines then you will need to put aside much of what you were taught and start from scratch ... just like everyone else. While the basic principles may be the same the execution of those principles is very different in this industry.

A willingness to learn
This is one of the most important attributes you can have if you want to succeed in this industry. If you come into the adult business with the idea that you already know it all then you're going to fail. Generating an income here is all about learning and you're never going to reach a point where you stop learning.

You'll learn about marketing techniques and web designs that encourage your surfers to move on to your sponsors. You will need to discover how the search engines operate, how to generate your own traffic and how to compete with a huge number of other webmasters who are all doing the same thing as you. And you will need to learn how to run a small business, maintain a steady cash flow and balance all that with a normal life.

An ability to work hard
As I said earlier, making money in this industry is not easy and if you've come into the adult online business with the idea that you can make bank by working a couple of hours a few days a week then you won't survive here. To survive in adult online you need to be prepared to put in long hours almost every day of the week.

That's a genuine fact of life here ... while your friends are partying hard you need to be working hard. Sure you can work from home and you don't have to answer to a boss or hit the time clock when you arrive or leave but if you want to make money here then you'll work harder than you have ever worked in your life.

A love of porn
Lots of guys ... and more than a few girls ... think that they're going to make it in this industry because they love to look at porn. Personally, after 11 years in this business I have to say that being hooked on porn is probably more of a hindrance than a help.

Sure you need to understand what makes people tick and what turns them on but you also need to look at the porn that you're dealing with as just a tool that you are going to use to make money. And that's the way the people who are making the big money in this industry look at it.

Those people who are making the money aren't here for the good times and the parties and the easy sex with hot babes (if those parties and easy sex are still real and not part of the image that surrounds this industry). For them it's a serious business and they treat it that way and that's the way you need to treat it if you want to succeed.

A burning ambition to succeed
Finally let me tell you about the most important thing you will need to succeed here and that's a burning ambition to succeed. At the beginning times will be hard and when you're first starting out the commission checks from your sponsors are small and infrequent.

When you've been putting in long hours for weeks at a time and you see that those small checks aren't in any hurry to increase in size you will begin to wonder whether it's worth your while staying here in adult. That's when you need a burning ambition to succeed because quitting will look so attractive but if you want to succeed then you have to keep driving yourself on.

It sure won't be easy to push yourself but if you don't then you will fail ... as so many do. If you have that burning ambition to succeed then you will push yourself through the hard times and you will succeed and you will begin to reap the rewards that come with working in this industry.
