Women, Emotion and Porn

So we're into another month and I do believe that time has really flown and we're in May.

Actually, I shouldn't sound so surprised ... it may seem as though we've only just had Christmas but I'm already planning and organising next Christmas. That may sound just a little extreme because we haven't even reached June yet but with 30 or 40 people coming, and most of them camping around the house, it's wise to be organised well in advance.

Fortunately, we do have around an acre of land around the house so there is plenty of room for them all but there are definitely some logistical challenges to be sorted out. However, I can think of those next week and until then I can think about, and enjoy, the conference we are going to this weekend.

For once, I won't be saying much but Steve, my partner, is presenting. If it was me who was doing something like that I would be a nervous wreck by now but he's pretty calm about the whole deal. His slide deck is done and submitted and he's just getting on with life as if he was doing no more than going fishing.

Here in Australia, just like over there in the US, this weekend is Mother's Day weekend. It's interesting that this conference is being run on the same weekend as Mother's Day, I wonder how many people decided not to attend because of that almost sacred time?

Of course at this time of year you are going to come across marketing articles around the Net, that try to teach webmasters how to connect with mothers. A fat lot of good learning Mother's Day marketing tricks this close to Mother's Day but I guess you can always file away those things you learn till next year.

One marketing tip I did see suggested that what women need to encourage them to buy things is emotion and so you need a subject line just dripping with emotion if you want to get women to open your marketing emails at this time of year.

A recent study suggested that you are likely to get a 21.5 percent higher open rate for emails with emotion-filled subject lines at this time of year. So is emotion something we need to think about when we are trying to sell porn to women?

While I am definitely not your average porn loving woman I'm fairly sure that even I respond to something a little more interesting than just coarse language when I'm seeing some advertising for my favorite type of porn. And when it comes to written erotica I am definitely more attracted to erotic prose when the writer takes the time to bring some emotional background into the story.

Without that emotion it is almost as if half the story is missing and that makes it all a bit disappointing.

While that works in erotic prose is that what works for marketing porn to women? I'm not sure but one expert suggests that any sort of emotional marketing will be even more effective if you're appealing to their curiosity.

Of course, while you are thinking about that, you should also be considering the size of the screen that these women are going to be seeing your marketing on. Women reading your text on a big screen will read a lot more of it those women who are looking at it on a tablet or a cell phone ... and lots of women do surf the Net on mobile devices.

So don't get carried away with your marketing words because, if it is too long, most women won't read it and then your efforts are just wasted. But how do you include emotion and appeal to their curiosity in as few words as possible?

Of course, it can be done even though it sounds like a mission impossible. The trick is to start writing and then read over what you have written before you go and make yourself a coffee. When you come back you start editing and you edit and re-edit until you have a few words that really pack a punch.

Now that takes time and most adult webmasters don't see the value in spending time writing marketing text. They think that hardcore images and a 'Click Here' call to action are all you need and that's fine. Ignorance is bliss and they will never think that maybe they could have done better if they had tried just a little harder.

They will moan about how hard it is to sell porn to women while those webmasters who are prepared to invest a little time and creative energy in writing solid sales text quietly go about making money from the market that is just too hard for all those who don't understand that making money from porn for women takes time and effort.

Actually, that's the way it is with all types of porn these days. Take time to create effective sales pitches and you will make money.
